Cornerstone Fellowship
Shiloh Hills Fellowship held its first Sunday service on Easter, 2002, a new church formed from the merger of Cornerstone Fellowship and Shiloh Hills Baptist Church. It was a day of excitement and anticipation, with so many new friends mixed in with old acquaintances. And many new questions. How would the cultures of the two churches mix? Would we trust each other? Would we trust the leadership of the "other" church?
While there certainly were some adjustments, it was such a pleasure to watch the churches become one, to develop friendships, and to trust. It was only a matter of months until the distinctions started to blur and then dissipate.
The significant growth that ensued help ease the adjustment. 60% of the people from the Spokane area who visited SHF decided to make it home, and in the course of two years the congregation tripled in size. SHF was becoming its own church with its own identity and mission. But most significantly, people from the neighborhood were starting to attend, and some have become God's children.
Starting the Monday after the merger, the elders convened a Growth Committee to start making plans for enlarging the current facilities. While not wanting to be presumptuous, it seemed apparent that God's blessing was on the church. In October of 2003, we broke ground for adding 17,000 square feet, providing a larger worship center, more classroom space, offices, and a foyer. On Mother's Day, May 9, 2004, SHF held its first service in the new facilities. This is an especially significant date, for 18 years earlier, on Mother's Day, Shiloh Hills Baptist held its first service in the then new facility.
In October 2007, Dr. Bill Mounce left and the church began the search for a new pastor. Both Earl Appleby, the retired former pastor of Shiloh Hills Baptist and Richard Gobble served as interim pastors during the 2 year search for a new pastor. During that difficult time, attendance dwindled.
In September 2009, Dr. Ron Anderson, of Bremerton, WA was called to lead the church. He and his wife, Sunny, began their ministry in late October 2009. Ron was a retired Navy chaplain and career Baptist General Conference (now Converge International) pastor who had been an associate pastor at Sylvan Way Baptist in Bremerton.
May God continue to use us for his glory in carrying out the Great Commission in the Shiloh Hills neighborhood and beyond. May we be found faithful.
